Year Three
Hello, and Welcome to Year 3!
It is set to be a very exciting year for Year 3. We will be working hard towards achieving our goals! Below is an idea of some of the interesting and fun things we will be doing in class. If you have anything you would like to discuss with me, please feel free to speak to me after school or make an appointment at the office. We are all incredibly excited for the year ahead!
This term, in Maths we will learn about place value, addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division. In Literacy, we will cover Seal Surfer, and learn how to write a letter. Meanwhile, our Handwriting focus will be on ascenders and descenders.
The topic in our Science lessons will be light, while in History we will learn from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Geography will focus on UK food and farming, and counties and cities. Our Art and DT classes will cover the subjects of shape and tone, and cushions. PHSE lessons will be on having a healthy diet.
PE is on Mondays and Tuesdays and will focus on dance and games. In order to take part in PE lessons the children need to bring their in their PE kit in a bag. The kit should be a white t-shirt, black shorts and black pumps.
Homework will be set on Class Dojo every Monday and is to be uploaded onto your child’s portfolio by the following Monday. If you need a paper copy, please let us know, but we would really like all children to ideally submit the work online.
Reading continues to be one of our key priorities in school, so it is important that children are reading every day at home. All children will take a book home per week and must bring this back daily, along with their reading record. This is very important. As well as the daily reading lesson, children should be reading for pleasure. Please encourage your child to quiz on Accelerated Reader.
I would like all year 3 children to develop a quick mental recall of multiplication and division. To support with this, all children can practice their timestables on TT Rockstars at home. There will be a timestables test every Friday.
We are really lucky to have drama specialists come to our school and work with us in dance and drama. This will be on Mondays. During this time, we will have booster sessions in maths and writing taking place in short bursts of time.
In the morning, doors will be open from 8.20am and the children can make their way to their classroom as soon as they arrive. Please say goodbye to the children away from the door and allow them to make their own way indoors. If you need to speak to your child’s teacher please ring the office to book an appointment. Lessons start from 8.30 am. At home time please wait for your child to be sent to you. The school day ends at 2.45pm.
